Conservation Works Helps Secure $50K Recreational Trails Grant Award

Conservation Works provided design and grant writing services to the Southampton Conservation Commission, the Easthampton Conservation Commission, and Pascommuck Conservation Trust (SEPTC) for their successful award of $50K through the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation’s 2015 Recreational Trails Grant program. The project will enlarge and enhance the trails on Southampton’s Whittemore Conservation area and connect this trail network to the Pascommuck Conservation Trust’s trails on the Pomeroy Meadow Conservation area located in Easthampton. Elements of the project include: a new 50’ fiberglass bridge over the Manhan River and a 240’elevated boardwalk to connect the bridge to the Whittemore trail network; and, a more convenient and accessible 4-car gravel parking area on Meadow Lane Road in Southampton.

Construction of these elements will be managed by CW. Other trail amenities include a small bike rack, an attractive trail head kiosk, and color-coded directional signage that will correspond with an updated trail maps. The trail network is designed for passive, non‐motorized activities such as walking, dog-walking, hiking, cross‐country skiing, and snow shoeing.
