Work on Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) climate change plans in Deerfield and Petersham

Deerfield River floodplain in Deerfield

CW, particularly Chris Curtis, is in its 7th year of work with the Town of Deerfield, assisting the Town with its climate change preparedness through several rounds of state MVP grants totaling more than $2 million. And this year, CW begins a 5-month MVP planning process for the Town of Petersham, which is situated on the northeast shore of the Quabbin Reservoir. Guided by CW partners Jill Craig and Andy Vecchio, Petersham has assembled a Core Team of townspeople and Town officials to prepare for a pair of spring, public, climate change workshops as part of the writing of a detailed climate preparedness plan by June 2024. Petersham has a small population of about 1,100, but it is geographically one of the five largest towns in the Commonwealth in which more than 75% of the land has been protected by 9 different conservation organizations.
