Janet Morrison

Janet Morrison is a lawyer and land conservation professional. In addition to her work as a lawyer in private practice, Janet worked as Executive Director of North County Land Trust for 15 years. While with the land trust, Janet facilitated the conservation of more than 1450 acres of land in Ashburnham, Ashby, Fitchburg, Gardner, Hubbardston, Lunenburg, Princeton, Templeton and Westminster, including two farms totaling 200 acres.

Since leaving the land trust in 2016, Janet has worked as a professional land conservation consultant, serving landowners, Conservation Commissions, Agricultural Commissions and land trusts, mostly in central Massachusetts. Janet offers complete land conservation services, including developing land conservation projects and strategies, grant writing, GIS mapping, legal drafting and project management.

In the past 8 years, Janet led a Landscape Partnership project which conserved 590 acres of forest land in Winchendon and Gardner; she was a partner in the Quabbin Reservoir to Wachusett Mountain Forest Legacy Project; she wrote three successful grant applications, that funded the 350-acres Jewell Hill Project in Ashby, Ashburnham and Fitchburg; she facilitated the conservation of Chapter 61A farmland through the assignment of a Right of First Refusal; she represented a farmer who purchased a farm with APR funding, and she was a consultant in the development of the Nashua Wild & Scenic Rivers and Forests, Forest Legacy Project proposal, which ranked no. 6 in the US and was funded in 2023. Janet is familiar with all Massachusetts land conservation grant programs, and federal Forest Legacy, North American Wetlands Conservation Act, and Agricultural Land Easement programs.

Janet has a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, and a Master of Science in Resource Management and Administration from Antioch New England Graduate School.

Janet is active in the land conservation community. She is a member of the Mass. Land Trust Coalition, and Advisor to the Fitchburg Agricultural Commission.

Janet lives with her husband in Ashburnham. Her outside interests include hiking, cycling, gardening, reading and spending time with her grandson.
