Detailed trail plans and cost estimates for the creation of an urban historical trail in a phased approach.

Conservation Works recently completed a plan for a unique trail from downtown Fitchburg to the summit of Rollstone Hill.  Building on a vision that local art gallery owner, Pete Capodagli, had and working with the Fitchburg Greenway Committee and the DPW Dept., Dick and Pete completed the plan for this unique environment – an abandoned granite quarry on top of a hill just south of Fitchburg Center.  Using several existing trails and recommending creation of some new sections, CW proposed the creation of a 2-mile trail loop that begins at the Upper Common in Fitchburg where Rollstone Boulder is located and proceeds over city sidewalks to the base of Rollstone Hill and then proceeds up and around the summit of the hill and back down to the Upper Common.  The trail plan provides detailed plans and cost estimates for the creation of this trail in a phased approach. The trail plan was developed to provide direction for the development of this property as well as to support the grant applications the city has submitted to fund the needed work.  When completed, the Rock Walk Trail will be one of the most interesting trails in Central Massachusetts and will certainly be a destination and attraction for the city.

Design, planning, and layout of ecologically sound trails and trail systems. We work with landowners and stakeholders to provide the type of enjoyable and quality trails that will appeal to visitors. We have experience developing trails that span a wide range of usages, from handicapped accessible trails to challenging single track.

Producing accurate and attractive electronic and printed maps of trail networks including natural features, points of interest, parking locations, property boundaries. Designing self-guided trails with annotated guides to flora, habitat features, local history, and other items of interest.

We provide guidance, strategies, recommendations and project management that define the specific tasks and phases needed within a project to achieve the ultimate vision. This includes identifying appropriate grants and other funding sources for the various phases of a project, from planning through implementation and long-term stewardship.
