Ongoing work to develop a unique interpretive trail through an abandoned quarry.

CLIENT  |  Fitchburg Greenway Committee & City of Fitchburg
LOCATION  |  Rollstone Hill, Fitchburg, MA
DATE  |  September 2022

Conservation Works LLC plays an integral role in the development of the Rock Walk Trail in Fitchburg.  CW’s Trail Designer, Dick O’Brien, has worked with the city’s Rock Walk team over a 5-year period to lay out the path of the Rock Walk and to direct and supervise SCA crews and DPW staff in the construction and upgrading of the trail.  The abandoned quarry is a unique environment for an interpretive trail and the past and current aerosol art activity add another dimension to the aesthetics of the site.  The 2-mile loop begins at “the Boulder” on the Upper Common in downtown Fitchburg and travels up to the summit of Rollstone Hill where the historic “Boulder” once stood.  Each year, the city has received grant money to further the development of the trail.  If all goes according to plan, CW will continue to be involved in this trail’s development for many years to come.  For further information about the Rock Walk Trail, check it out at www.Bouldartgallery.com
