Improving trails, erosion and habitats for a beautiful Southborough property

Conservation Works prepared a Phase I Management Plan for the beautiful, diverse 58.5-acre Beals Preserve in Southborough in partnership with the Southborough Open Land Foundation (SOLF). The property had long been managed by the late Whit Beals. The plan included recommendations for trail management, farm road repairs and re-surfacing, invasive species control, field habitat management, nest boxes, trail erosion control with water bars, and other vegetation management.
Part of the project included the construction of a new trail section in the southern part of the property to avoid an old, damaged trail. SOLF has also put pollinator management high on its list for attention, and has worked with Dr. Rob Gegear on the creation of a demonstration pollinator area near the property entrance.
